Steam is now an algorithm game. Learning to market your game you need to get into the Discovery Queue and this is still driven by Wishlist as least based on Chris Z of HTMAG.

You now need to find existing genres and build a game that the players like in that genre. Steam Algo has a way to find games in the similar genre.

I think they want to sell more games so if someone likes Deck Builders they potentially would pay more of the same.

David Wehle doing an interview with Thomas Brush talks about this for his new game We harvest Shadows. I did a part of his course and he talks about marketing is super importan now to get a game wishlist. You need to know how to market to the genre audience that the players are currently playing.
